Board of Trustees Vacancy
Amherst Public Library is accepting applications to fill a seat on the library’s board of trustees that will become vacant.
The new trustee will be appointed to a finish the remainder of a 7-year term ending December 31, 2026. Criteria for potential trustees include commitment to the goals of the Amherst Public Library, willingness to devote time and effort to duties, recognition of the library’s importance as a community center of information, active participation in community affairs, management or professional experience and commitment to intellectual freedom.

Qualifications for a library trustee:
The most important qualification is a strong and genuine belief in public libraries and their mission in the community as centers for information, transformation and lifelong learning. A candidate must be willing to devote appropriate time and effort to carrying out the duties and responsibilities of trusteeship. These duties will include regular attendance at board meetings, committee service and activities, visibility in the community on behalf of the library, and learning about the library and the social, legal and political context in which it exists.
